Shelby & Kent were married a little less than a year ago. As they will soon be celebrating their one year anniversary, we decided it was time to share their lovely wedding story with you all. Shelby & Kent met while they both lived in Kentucky. They were working for an advertising agency where Shelby was an intern. Shelby found herself attracted to a mysterious and handsome web developer... whose name was Kent! Their love story developed similarly to that of Jim and Pam from The Office. They fell in love and after being together for 2 years they decided to fulfill a life long dream they shared... moving to Japan! At the time of their wedding in May 2019, they were living in Japan when they decide to get married at Blackstone Rivers Ranch. At the time of planning their wedding, they were looking for a place they could have an intimate and special wedding. Not to mention they wanted a destination wedding for both themselves and their families living in Kentucky. They searched high and low for the perfect forest wedding venue. But nothing stood out to them like Blackstone Rivers Ranch. In addition, their last name means 'small forest' in Japanese (which they took as a sign) and everything came together at the little small forest that is Blackstone. We pride ourselves on the natural beauty that surrounds Blackstone. That is one of the things that attracted Kent and Shelby to our mountain event venue. They didn't need to bring a whole bunch of decorations to make the venue beautiful as the venue was already filled with natural beauty. Shelby & Kent wanted something low-key and due to the natural surroundings, they could do that while still being surrounded by beauty. On their special day, Idaho Springs experienced a sudden snowstorm that changed their plans from getting married under our evergreens to having an intimate ceremony under the Pavilion patio. This unexpected change of plan tied the bride and groom even closer to the guests. As snow fell, Shelby and Kent exchanged vows while being looked on by their blanket-bundled guests... A moment that can only be described as magical. When we spoke with Shelby earlier this week, she said her favorite part of her wedding day was pulling up to Blackstone being covered in snow. She also enjoyed being able to watch all their guests dance the night away under the sail-cloth tent. Not to mention the moment when Foxey, our resident fox, came down to wish the couple a happily ever after! So where are Kent and Shelby now? They're still living in Japan but they plan on moving back stateside soon. They look forward to visiting Blackstone again to relive their very special day.
